Variation in kognitiven Fähigkeiten wurde bislang hauptsächlich in Bezug auf Artunterschiede untersucht. Zu diesem Forschungsgebiet tragen wir vergleichende Daten über die sozio-kognitiven Plesiomorphien basaler Primaten bei. Diese Untersuchungen finden an den am DPZ und im Affenwald Straußberg gehaltenen Lemuren, aber auch an mehreren Arten in Madagaskar statt.
Zusätzlich untersuchen wir Ursachen und Konsequenzen individueller Variation in kognitiven Fähigkeiten bei Primaten und Raubtieren. Dazu kombinieren wir kognitive Tests an wilden Tieren mit begleitenden Experimenten zur Bestimmung von Persönlichkeitsmerkmalen sowie mit Messungen von diversen Fitness-Indices.
Weiterhin untersuchen wir, wie Lemuren gemeinsame Aktivitäten koordinieren und wie sie Konflikte lösen.
